December 29 – January 18: Mercury Retrograde in Capricorn

Mercury retrograde is a time to turn our thoughts inward and review our plans for the future.  What was once done automatically, now requires forethought.  We need to slow down and have more awareness of our thoughts, communications and actions.

Sometimes, it can reveal new information  – and these facts may be important enough to alter your course.  Many people associate this period with communication issues, technology breakdowns, mail/shipping delays, etc. Most do not understand why this is happening. It’s not to annoy, irritate or test our patience!  That’s just an unpleasant side effect. It is a time when we are pulled inside ourselves for reflection. Outward expression is more difficult, therefore everyday communication becomes disrupted.

Mercury will station retrograde at 24° Capricorn on December 29th. Capricorn is the sign of patience, planning and self-discipline.  Hard work is required if we want to achieve our goals.  Future success will be a direct consequence of what is done here and now.

This retrograde cycle will affect how we handle our finances.  Did you carry over debt from holiday shopping?  Is it time to cut back on spending and pay off those credit cards?  Focus on this now or you may experience frustration when Mercury goes direct in three weeks and makes a difficult aspect to Saturn (ruler of Capricorn and consequences).

This retrograde cycle will also emphasize relationships. Are you keeping a romantic interest a secret? Or hiding something from a friend? Be cautious.  Secrets may get revealed at this time and cause problems by mid-January.  If you need to come clean, do it as soon as possible.  It’s better if they find it out from you, rather than someone else. If you feel it’s not appropriate to disclose the information, be very discreet with what you say and do.

Capricorn, Cancer, Aries and Libra: This retrograde cycle will affect you the most.  Your relationships will transform and deepen.  A difficult relationship may end. Be true to yourself and honest with those you love.
